Dr. Heidi Kraus serves as Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and Associate Professor of Art History at Hope College. She oversees academic programs including summer research, General Education, and the Klooster Center for Writing and Research. Previously, she chaired the Department of Art and Art History and directed Hope's DePree Gallery.
Education:

Research Focus:
Her scholarship examines 18th-19th century French iconography in contemporary visual culture, with emphasis on street art as expressions of national identity. She pioneers interdisciplinary approaches to migration studies through initiatives like the 'Challenging Borders' program and co-directs the Paris May Term studying outsider narratives in French society.
Publication Trends:
Her 15-year publication record demonstrates consistent focus on Jacques-Louis David's oeuvre, evolving from formal analyses of neoclassical works to contemporary investigations of street art as cultural memory. Recent scholarship engages spatial politics and post-trauma public art.
