She holds a joint appointment with the UCSF School of Medicine and serves as the Clinical Director of the UCSF Biomagnetic Imaging Laboratory (MEG Lab), focusing on brain mapping for epilepsy surgery and functional brain studies. Her research explores novel brain-mapping techniques, seizure mechanisms, and the role of neurophysiological changes in Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Kirsch earned her MD from the UCSF/Joint Medical Program and completed residency and fellowship training at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She is actively involved in medical education, directing the Foundational Science component of the UCSF Bridges Curriculum.
- Education: A.B. in Biological Anthropology (Harvard, 1991), M.S. in Health Sciences (UC Berkeley, 1994), M.D. (UCSF, 1996)
- Research Interests: Epileptology, Alzheimer's disease neurophysiology, MEG/EEG applications, clinical neurophysiology
Her work bridges clinical practice and research, with a focus on improving surgical outcomes for epilepsy patients and understanding cognitive impacts of neurological disorders. Notable contributions include studies on subclinical epileptiform activity in Alzheimer's and the development of advanced neuroimaging techniques. Dr. Kirsch is a member of the American Neurological Association and serves on the board of the American Clinical Magnetoencephalography Society.
