Heidi C Powell is an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies for the Art Education Program at the University of Florida’s School of Art + Art History. She also serves as Affiliate Faculty at the Center for Latin American Studies. Her work bridges art education, cultural memory, and transnational engagement through interdisciplinary research and creative practice.

Her research focuses on narrative inquiry, indigenous identities, and arts integration in medicine. She has conducted fieldwork in Guatemala, Iceland, China, and Cuba, emphasizing global pedagogical exchanges. Recent creative work explores ancestral narratives through sculpture and video, such as the permanent installation Voices of Our Ancestors in Arkansas.
Publications & Recognition: Her work includes articles on cultural memory and a chapter in Revitalizing History. Awards include the TAEA Art Educator of the Year and UF Diversity Champion nomination. She has held fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Jewish National Fund, and Fulbright programs.
Collaborations: Leads the Art Education Online Program, coordinates international collaborations (e.g., Uni-Graz, Freies Atelierhaus Schaumbad), and advises on arts and medicine initiatives at the University of Texas Medical Branch.
