Hege Sletvold serves as Associate Professor of Pharmacy (50%) and Head of Division for Drugs and Medication Management (50%) at Nord University's Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences. Her career spans academic positions since 2015, pharmacy management at Boots Norge AS (2009-2016), and postdoctoral work at NTNU (2008-2009).
Her educational background includes a PhD in Pharmacy from UiT The Arctic University of Norway (2004-2008) with thesis on VanA type glycopeptide resistance plasmids in Enterococcus faecium, and a Master of Pharmacy (Candidatus pharmaciae) from the same institution (1998-2003).
Dr. Sletvold's research program centers on three interconnected domains: medical microbiology and antimicrobial resistance, social pharmacy and pharmacy practice, and medication safety and rational use of medicines. Her work bridges laboratory science with community healthcare applications, particularly focusing on vulnerable populations like older adults in municipal care settings. Current projects include MedSafe-Old (medication safety for elderly home care recipients), patient-centered pharmacy consultations, OTC counseling best practices, and depression/anxiety trends in chronic disease populations using the HUNT database.
Her recent publications reveal strong thematic continuity with emerging emphasis on interprofessional education adaptations during the pandemic, nuanced analysis of non-prescription counseling practices, and sophisticated linkage studies between health surveys and prescription databases. The work demonstrates methodological diversity spanning qualitative observational studies, systematic reviews, database linkage analyses, and educational interventions.
As an educator, she teaches pharmacology, pharmacotherapy, social pharmacy, and research methods while supervising PhD, Master's, and Bachelor's candidates at Nord and NTNU. She coordinates pharmacy placements for students and has significant involvement in curriculum development projects including Supplemental Instruction implementation.
Her leadership extends to projects like KoRiP (Kvalitet og Relevans i Praksis), which develops interprofessional education during clinical placements, and she actively contributes to scientific anthologies on medication safety in municipal healthcare services.
