Hedvig Bubnó is an Associate Professor at the Department of Medieval Studies, Institute of History, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Gáspár Károli Reformed University in Hungary. With a PhD in History from Eötvös Loránd University (2010), her academic career spans over three decades, focusing on medieval cultural, music, and social history with special expertise in hagiography and medieval Spain.
Dr. Bubnó earned her MA in History and Spanish Language and Literature from Eötvös Loránd University in 1990, followed by her doctoral studies culminating in 2010 with a dissertation on "The theory and application of ars musica in early medieval teaching." Her academic journey began as a librarian at ELTE BTK History Library (1990-1992) before teaching Spanish at ELTE Eötvös József Collegium (1993-2013).
Her research centers on medieval cultural history, music history, social history, and hagiography. Dr. Bubnó has made significant contributions to understanding the role of music in medieval education, the cultural transmission in barbarian kingdoms, and the cult of saints in medieval Europe, particularly Saint Elizabeth of Hungary. Her work bridges European and Latin American medieval studies, exploring connections between Iberia and the New World.
Dr. Bubnó's extensive publication record includes monographs, edited volumes, and numerous journal articles spanning from 1988 to 2024. Her recent work focuses on early medieval music theory, the cultural influence of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, and the transmission of Roman culture in barbarian kingdoms. She has contributed significantly to both Hungarian and international scholarly discourse on medieval studies.

As TDK and Talent Development Manager since 2010 and Erasmus Coordinator from 2016-2020 at KRE BTK Institute of History, Dr. Bubnó has been instrumental in mentoring students and fostering international academic exchange. She has served on the board of the Hungarian Hagiographic Society and is an active member of the Hungarian Historical Society and Hungarian Patristic Society.
Dr. Bubnó participates in multiple research groups including the Latin America Research Group (until February 2022), Late Medieval Research Group, and Culture of Memory from Antiquity to Modernity Research Group at KRE BTK, where she contributes her expertise in medieval history and cross-cultural connections.
