Heather Sanderson is Associate Professor and Program Coordinator for Health, Exercise and Sport Sciences at Meredith College, where she also directs the Lowery Fitness Center. Her research examines relationships between undergraduate physical activity, collegiate recreation participation, student wellbeing, and academic success.
With over twenty years of experience in collegiate recreation, Sanderson pioneered early student and employee wellness programs. Her current work investigates how recreational facilities and programs impact student development, wellbeing metrics, and educational outcomes.
Sanderson presents regularly at national conferences including NIRSA, ACHA, and NAKHE. She developed the Lowery Fitness Center as both a community wellness space and research/teaching laboratory for health sciences students.
