Heather McCoy is a Teaching Professor of French and Francophone Studies and the Director of Undergraduate Studies at the Department of French and Francophone Studies, Penn State University. She oversees the Basic Language Program, mentors Graduate Teaching Assistants, and advises undergraduates on study abroad opportunities in French-speaking countries.
Education: Ph.D. (Brown University, 2004), M.Phil. (Brown University, 1996), M.A. (University of Georgia, 1992), B.A. (University of Minnesota, 1988).
Her research focuses on French for Special Purposes, particularly workplace proficiency in French, including Business French and French for Global Health. She has authored textbooks and pedagogical resources emphasizing practical language use.
Publications span language pedagogy, curriculum design, and instructional materials, reflecting her dedication to innovative language education. She received the Chevalier/Ordre des Palmes académiques (2021) for contributions to French studies.
In advising roles, she leads study abroad programs and supports graduate teaching assistants. Her work is centered in the Basic Language Program and the Department of French and Francophone Studies.
