Heather MacRae is an Associate Professor and Graduate Program Director in the Department of Politics at York University's Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies. Her research examines Europeanization and gender politics within the European Union context.
MacRae's work analyzes the unintentional reconstruction of gender differences through European policy initiatives. She has published on various aspects of gender policy and gender relations in EU member states, with particular focus on institutional mechanisms that perpetuate gender inequality despite progressive policies.
Research interests span gender issues in policymaking, comparative European politics, German political systems, and the impact of EU integration on national gender regimes. Current projects investigate how gender mainstreaming initiatives interact with existing policy frameworks to produce unintended consequences.
