Heather J Johnson

Dr. Heather J. Johnson is an Assistant Professor and Clinical Specialist in Transplantation at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. She holds a PharmD from the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy (1995) and completed a Clinical Fellowship in Renal Transplant Pharmacotherapy at Hennepin County Medical Center. Since 1997, she has been a faculty member, Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist, and inaugural member of the Board of Pharmacy Specialties Solid Organ Transplantation Pharmacy Specialty Council.

Her clinical expertise focuses on abdominal transplantation (particularly liver), viral hepatitis, and ambulatory kidney transplant care. She leads the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at UPMC Presbyterian and coordinates student rotations at ISMETT in Palermo, Italy. Teaching responsibilities include liver disease, nutrition, and immunology courses.

Research interests center on transplantation pharmacokinetics, immunosuppressant therapy, and liver disease. Key awards include the 2022 Clinical Practice Award (ACCP) and Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy.

Dr. Johnson has authored over 30 peer-reviewed articles addressing topics like voriconazole pharmacokinetics in liver transplant recipients, adverse drug reactions, and cross-training medical teams. She actively collaborates on international projects, including developing pharmacy services in specialized Italian hospitals.
