Heather Casey is a Professor of Literacy Education at Rider University, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in literacy education and coordinates the graduate-level literacy concentration. She also serves as Site Director of the National Writing Project. With a background as a former middle school language arts teacher and certified Reading Specialist, she actively engages in leadership roles within the literacy education community.

- B.A. in English with minor in Secondary Education, Rutgers University
Dr. Casey’s research emphasizes collaborative learning structures and new literacies to support adolescent literacy development, bridging school and community practices. Her recent publications focus on school-community dialogue, disciplinary literacy integration, and leveraging digital tools for civic engagement.

She has led grants with the National Writing Project to enhance teacher leadership and authored books on literacy learning clubs, which promote academic achievement, social-emotional growth, and reading enjoyment through small-group collaboration. Dr. Casey also supervises student teaching seminars and doctoral dissertation committees.
