Heather Blackburn is Assistant Dean and Assistant Professor of Instruction in Sport and Recreation Management at the School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM), Temple University. She plays a key leadership role in academic administration and instructional oversight within the school.
Her educational background includes an Ed.D. in Education Leadership and Management from Drexel University, an M.S. in Education from the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.A. in Political Science from Lehigh University.
Dr. Blackburn's research and professional interests focus on higher education administration, academic advising, student services, online learning, curriculum development, and faculty training in sport and hospitality management programs. Her work emphasizes improving academic support systems and educational delivery in higher education.
She has previously served as Director of Student Services and Administration at Drexel University’s Center for Hospitality and Sport Management, where she led academic advising, new-student initiatives, financial aid appeals, online learning programs, and curriculum development. Prior to that, she was Program Manager for Drexel’s sport management program for nearly a decade and served as an admissions and financial aid counselor at the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
Dr. Blackburn also has industry experience in an eBusiness start-up, focusing on training and client onboarding. At Temple, she contributes to academic leadership, faculty development, and student success initiatives.
Her administrative roles include managing academic operations, training adjunct faculty, and leading curriculum committees. Though no formal research grants or publications are listed, her expertise lies in educational leadership and program management within sport, tourism, and hospitality fields.
She is actively involved in the academic mission of STHM and supports institutional excellence in education and student services.
