Professor Heath Ecroyd is Acting Executive Dean and Associate Dean (Research) at the Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health, University of Wollongong. A recipient of prestigious fellowships including the NHMRC Peter Doherty Fellowship and ARC Future Fellowship, he leads research on protein homeostasis mechanisms in neurodegenerative diseases. His laboratory investigates how molecular chaperones prevent protein aggregation in conditions like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Motor Neurone Disease.
Research interests focus on proteostasis networks, extracellular chaperones, and therapeutic strategies for neurodegeneration. Key areas include:
- Chaperone interactions with amyloidogenic proteins
- Single-molecule analysis of protein aggregation
- Development of targeted degradation technologies
Professor Ecroyd mentors multiple PhD students investigating chaperone mechanisms in ALS and protein disaggregation. He has secured significant funding from FightMND, NHMRC, and ARC for innovative research programs.
