Hazel Girvan

Hazel Girvan is a Senior Lecturer in Cell Biology/Biochemistry at the Department of Physical and Life Sciences, School of Applied Sciences, University of Huddersfield. She joined the university in September 2020 and is actively accepting PhD students for research projects.

Education:

• Undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Microbiology from the University of Strathclyde
• PhD from the University of Leicester under the supervision of Prof Andrew Munro

Dr. Girvan's research focuses on protein biochemistry and enzymology, particularly around cofactor containing enzymes and their roles in metabolism and xenobiotic pathways. She utilizes spectroscopic, analytic, and structural techniques in her studies, with a strong emphasis on biotechnological applications. Her work primarily centers on cytochrome P450 enzymes and heme-containing proteins, including studies on flavocytochrome P450 BM3 and DGCR8 (DiGeorge Critical Region 8).
