Dr Hayley Saul is a Senior Research Fellow and Deputy Director of the Heritage for Global Challenges Research Centre at the University of York. She holds a PhD from the University of York (2012) and has held academic roles at Western Sydney University including Senior Lecturer in Heritage and Tourism, and Associate Dean positions. Her research focuses on Himalayan heritage, biocultural systems, and climate adaptation through transdisciplinary projects with Indigenous communities and NGOs like ICIMOD. Key initiatives include the Langtang Heritage Trail (post-earthquake cultural recovery) and studies on Himalayan culinary resilience and water heritage in Kathmandu. Saul is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and leads global research on mountain heritage and disaster survivance.
Education: PhD in Archaeology (University of York, 2012); Postdoctoral Fellowships in Japan and Australia. Research themes emphasize culturally grounded solutions to climate challenges, integrating archaeology, anthropology, and environmental science.
