Prof. Hauko Wessel is a Professor of Violin, Chamber Music, and Violin Didactics at the Institute of Music (IfM) at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences. He holds a distinguished career in music performance and education, having studied in Hannover, Tel Aviv, and Munich. Since 2003, he has been actively involved with the Musica Antiqua Köln ensemble, contributing to recordings for Deutsche Grammophon and participating in European tours. In 2022, he pioneered the 'Solmisationsgeleitete Instrumental/Streicherdidaktik' teaching method, emphasizing musical literacy and solmization-guided instruction. He regularly presents workshops and lectures internationally, including at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and Xi'an Conservatory in China. Wessel is a member of the interdisciplinary research group 'PA.H|LIFETIME.ai' (2024), investigating health risks for performing artists using AI. His students have secured academic and professional roles globally, reflecting his impactful pedagogical approach.
Research interests focus on violin didactics, historical performance practices, and interdisciplinary applications of music education. He has served as artistic director of the Mozart Week and frequently judges international music competitions. His current work bridges traditional music instruction with modern pedagogical frameworks, aiming to enhance musical literacy and performance excellence.
