Professor Vasilis Hatzopoulos holds the position of Professor of European Law and Politics at Panteion University, Greece. He previously served as Professor and Chair of the Department at Democritus University of Thrace, where he also acted as Dean of the School of Social, Political and Economic Sciences. He is concurrently a Visiting Professor at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium. His expertise spans EU governance, internal market dynamics, public procurement, immigration policy, and the legal implications of the sharing economy.
He has advised the Greek government on regulatory reforms, the European Commission on the Services Directive, and the European Parliament on patients' rights. His legal practice includes appearances before Greece's highest courts and the Court of Justice of the EU.
Research interests focus on EU institutional frameworks, digital economy legal challenges, and international trade agreements. His publications include monographs on mutual recognition in the EU internal market (1999), competition law principles (2002), services regulation (2012), and the sharing economy (2018), complemented by over 100 articles in refereed journals across French, Greek, and English.
