Hatty Nestor is a Lecturer in the Department of English Literature at the University of Reading, part of the School of Humanities. Her work bridges creative writing and scholarly research, focusing on art, ethics, gender, and social justice. She holds a PhD in Creative Writing and Gender Studies from Birkbeck University of London, an MA in Critical Writing from the Royal College of Art, and a BA in Art History from Goldsmiths University of London.
Her research explores marginalized voices, archival practices, and questions of representation. Notable works include Ethical Portraits: In Search of Representational Justice (2021), analyzing representation in the US criminal justice system, and The Aching Poem (2021), addressing chronic health conditions. Her interdisciplinary approach is evident in collaborations with institutions like the Smithsonian Institute and MACBA, Barcelona.
Nestor’s publications span journals such as Gender Forum and Granta, and she has received grants including the AHRC International Fellowship (2022) and Art Council England’s National Lottery Project Grant. She teaches Creative Writing modules and has led workshops at venues like the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA). Her current projects include a book on Cuban-American artist Ana Mendieta.
