Hatice Kübra Akben

Dr. Hatice Kübra Akben is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Nanotechnology Engineering at Yeditepe University, Faculty of Engineering. She also serves as Deputy Head of the same department’s undergraduate program and is involved in the master’s and doctoral programs. Previously, she was a doctoral lecturer at Istanbul Gedik University and a research assistant at Kocaeli University.

Research Interests:

Dr. Akben’s research spans materials science and engineering, metallurgical engineering, ceramic materials, surface treatments, and nanocomposites. She has conducted extensive work on electrolytic silver and gold electrodeposition, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) for molten aluminum alloy analysis, and bioceramic scaffolds for bone tissue engineering.

Her work on chitosan-based composite foams and biphasic calcium phosphate materials highlights her dedication to biomedical applications, while her studies on antimicrobial polymer composites demonstrate a strong focus on functional materials for industrial and health sectors.

Projects and Grants:

• Principal investigator roles in TÜBİTAK projects on LIBS integration for aluminum alloy analysis and local armor steel welding.
• Advisor and researcher in projects developing gold and rhodium plating baths and antibacterial polymer composites.
• Ongoing international project on dolomite-based high-purity magnesium production.

Teaching:

Dr. Akben teaches undergraduate and graduate courses including Primary Metal Production Principles, Surface Science and Engineering, Ceramic Science and Technology, Chemical Metallurgy, and Advanced Ceramics.

Student Supervision:

She has supervised master’s theses on metal-doped biphasic calcium phosphate/chitosan scaffolds and 3D-printed aluminum lattice structures.
