Hasret Dikici Bilgin

Prof. Hasret Dikici Bilgin is a faculty member in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Istanbul Bilgi University, College of Social Sciences. Her research and teaching focus on comparative politics, Turkish politics, radicalization, and political institutions, with a particular emphasis on pro-Islamist parties and electoral dynamics in Turkey and the Middle East.

Her research interests include:

• Comparative Politics: Radicalization, class analysis, political institutions, pro-Islamist parties, elections in the Middle East, and political elites in Europe.
• Turkish Politics: Islamist movement in Turkey, elections, political parties, constitutional engineering, and coalition politics.

Prof. Bilgin has led and contributed to several major international research initiatives, including Horizon Europe and Horizon 2020 projects, focusing on de-radicalization and political extremism. Her work reflects a strong engagement with both theoretical and policy-oriented dimensions of political science.

She has received significant recognition for her scholarly contributions:

• Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) Best Book Prize (2014) for Karşılaştırmalı Siyaset: Temel ve Yaklaşımlar
• Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) Graduate Fellowship (2006–2010)

Prof. Bilgin has held key roles in national and international academic organizations. She served as an Executive Committee member of the Turkish Political Science Association (2012–2021) and the International Political Science Association (IPSA) (2018–2021). Notably, she was the Program Chair of the 26th World Congress of Political Science. She has coordinated and led multiple research projects, including the South European Governments (SEG) Project and the Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) Project, demonstrating extensive experience in collaborative, cross-national research and academic leadership.

She is actively involved in research networks such as Strengthening and Integrating Academic Networks (SInAN) under the EU’s 7th Framework Programme and has served as a country expert and principal investigator for various EU-funded initiatives. Her ongoing projects, including OppAttune (2023–2026), confirm her active research trajectory and institutional engagement.
