Harvey Burnett is a Professor of Psychology and Chair of the School of Social & Behavioral Sciences at Andrews University. He holds a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology (Andrews University, 2001), M.Div. from Andrews SDA Theological Seminary (1994), and B.A. in Psychology from the University of Michigan-Dearborn (1991). His research focuses on trauma-related disorders, disaster behavioral health, and crisis intervention, with extensive experience in critical incident stress management (CISM).
Professional roles include serving as Chief of Police for Buchanan Police Department, assistant emergency management coordinator, and board member of Berrien County CISM. He has provided CISM interventions post-9/11 and the 2010 Haiti earthquake. His presentations include discussions on CISM strategies and PTSD resilience in disaster contexts.
Dr. Burnett has held roles in law enforcement for 20+ years and served 18 years on the Buchanan Community Schools Board of Education. His private practice operates part-time, and he actively engages in community policing and behavioral science initiatives.
