Harry Walker

Harry Walker is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). His research focuses on the anthropology of Latin America, particularly the indigenous peoples of Amazonia, with an emphasis on the Urarina community in lowland Peru. Key areas of inquiry include selfhood, shamanism, law, materiality, sport, bureaucracy, egalitarianism, happiness, and the commons.

Walker's monograph Under a Watchful Eye examines tensions between individual autonomy and communal interdependence in Amazonian societies, analyzing childcare, non-human relationships, and power dynamics. His recent work explores everyday experiences of justice, moral emotions, and the impact of state and market integration on indigenous lifeways. He has also co-edited How People Compare, interrogating comparative practices across cultures.

His research integrates ethnographic fieldwork with theoretical contributions to anthropology, addressing themes such as moral learning, ritual practices, and the socio-political dimensions of material culture.
