معرفی
Harry Tamvakis is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Maryland, College Park. His academic work spans algebraic geometry, intersection theory, and algebraic combinatorics with deep connections to representation theory and number theory. He actively teaches graduate-level courses including Abstract Algebra I (Math 600) and contributes to the department's Algebraic Geometry and Number Theory seminars.
His research focuses on Schubert calculus, degeneracy loci, and the geometry of homogeneous spaces of Lie groups. Tamvakis has developed important formulas in quantum cohomology, Arakelov theory, and the theory of Schubert and Grothendieck polynomials. His work bridges complex differential geometry, representation theory, and combinatorial structures like symmetric functions, with significant contributions to understanding theta and eta polynomials in geometric contexts.
Tamvakis has received continuous funding from the National Science Foundation through grants DMS-0401082, DMS-0639033, DMS-0901341, and DMS-1303352, supporting his research in algebraic geometry. He actively participates in academic service through the Mathematics Department seminars and serves as a resource for the broader mathematical community through his publications and teaching materials.
