Harriet Berry is a PostDoctoral Research Assistant in the Department of Biological Sciences at Royal Holloway, University of London. Her research focuses on carotenoid biosynthesis, plant genetics, and metabolic engineering with applications in sustainable agriculture. She specializes in isolating sub-plastidial fractions from carotenoid-rich fruits and analyzing metabolic pathways in plants like Capsicum annuum (chilli pepper).
Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to sustainable agriculture (SDG 2) and responsible consumption (SDG 12). Key projects include SUSCAR (2023-2024) and CARDEL (2023-2024), funded by BBSRC to improve carotenoid production sustainability. She also leads the ICURe Explore Programme (2024-2025) for natural compound solutions.
Her research outputs span enzyme characterization, chromoplast biology, and regulatory frameworks for new plant breeding techniques. Collaborations include international teams studying carotenoid metabolism and metabolomic approaches in plant systems.
