معرفی
Dr. Harprit Singh is an Associate Professor and Faculty Head of Research Students at De Montfort University, within the School of Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. He is actively engaged in research on vascular cell signaling, endothelial biology, and the impact of dietary components on cardiovascular health, with a strong focus on molecular pathways such as Akt-eNOS, NF-κB, and Angiopoietin/Tie signaling.
His research interests include: Cardiovascular Disease, Nutrition and cardiovascular function, Endothelial biology, Cell signalling, Growth hormones and their Receptors, Molecular markers of vascular disease, and Angiogenesis. He teaches in the BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science and BMedSci (Hons) Medical Science programmes, covering areas such as Endocrinology, Cardiovascular, Human Anatomy and Physiology, and Angiogenesis.
The most recent publications reveal a consistent focus on the protective effects of anthocyanins and phenolic metabolites (especially from elderberry) on endothelial function, their role in mitigating inflammation and oxidative stress, and their potential in managing vascular complications related to atherosclerosis and SARS-CoV-2. His work frequently involves in vitro models using endothelial cells and explores signaling pathways central to vascular integrity.
- Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA)
Dr. Singh has successfully supervised multiple PhD students, including Joseph Festa, Nasrin Madieh, Tam Ngoc Minh Vu, Jay Bilimoria, Aamir Hussain, and Rasmieh Alziedan, and currently supervises Dolgormaa Janchivlamdan and Koddus Ali. He has received externally funded research grants and acts as a peer reviewer for journals such as Nature Communications, Frontiers in Physiology, and BMC Cardiovascular Disorders, as well as for funding bodies like the Medical Research Council and Diabetes UK. He also consults for Emerald Nutrition.
He is actively involved in pedagogical innovation, leading initiatives that engage students in teaching roles both locally and internationally, including outreach programs in Bermuda and the development of online parasitology resources.
