Harm van Kuppevelt

Harm van Kuppevelt is a Researcher at the Chemical Analytics and Biogeochemistry group of the Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) in Berlin, serving as Early Stage Researcher (ESR 12) in the RecaP project focused on phosphorus recovery from polluted aquatic systems.

His academic background includes a BSc in Chemistry from Utrecht University, where he investigated phosphate incorporation in schwertmannite, followed by an MSc in Geoscience examining iron-based treatments for phosphorus reduction in peat extraction ditches. Van Kuppevelt's research centers on microscopic chemical processes governing large-scale earth systems, with specialized expertise in phosphorus transformation mechanisms in lake sediments. He actively explores vivianite mineral formation as a permanent phosphorus sequestration pathway, bridging inorganic chemistry and environmental sustainability to address global nutrient pollution challenges through the RecaP project's interdisciplinary framework.
