Hariklia Proios, PhD, serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders within Adelphi University's Ruth S. Ammon College of Education and Health Sciences. With over 25 years of clinical and academic experience across the United States and Europe, she leads significant initiatives in stroke rehabilitation and education.
Her research focuses on long-term stroke recovery, aphasia treatment, and community-based stroke education. Dr. Proios champions innovative approaches to empower stroke survivors through educational programs and support networks, with particular emphasis on intergenerational initiatives for stroke symptom recognition.
Dr. Proios holds a PhD from Teachers College, Columbia University, and conducted research at Harvard University's Cognitive Neuropsychology Lab and University Hospital of Zurich. She is a practicing speech-language pathologist with extensive clinical experience.
Her recent recognition includes the Angels Spirit of Excellence award presented at ESOC 2025 (European Stroke Organisation Conference) in Helsinki, Finland, where she was the only non-physician recipient among five global awardees. This honor acknowledges her exceptional contributions to stroke care across disciplines.
