Harihara Baskaran

Harihara Baskaran is a Professor and Department Chair of the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the Case School of Engineering, Case Western Reserve University. He holds the Leonard Case Jr. Professor of Engineering chair and serves as the OMEGA In Vitro Thrust Leader.

• PhD in Chemical Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University (1997)

Research Interests:
Baskaran applies transport principles to solve biological and medical challenges, focusing on:

• Microvascular tissue engineering to overcome mass transfer limitations in engineered tissues
• Cell transport mechanisms (chemotaxis, haptotaxis) in inflammation, cancer, and wound healing
• Glucose metabolism and extracellular matrix synthesis in chondrogenesis

His work spans Stem Cell Engineering, Biomaterials, and Transport Phenomena, with recent studies on hydrogel microcapsules, porous fiber fabrication, and shear stress effects on cell differentiation.
