Hardy Mohrbacher is a Lecturer at KU Leuven, affiliated with the Structural Composites and Alloys, Integrity and Nondestructive Testing (SCALINT) unit in the Arenberg campus. His work focuses on steel microalloying, weldability, and automotive material applications.
- Research topics: Microalloying of steel, weldability, formability, steel for line pipe/construction, automotive steel sheets, and microalloyed cast iron.
- Teaching: Courses on Advanced Metal Processing & Case Studies (H00D3A) and Metals: Shaping and Joining (H0S55A).
Recent research explores microstructural control in advanced high-strength steels, nickel alloying fundamentals, and fatigue performance of welded joints for automotive applications. Publications highlight the interplay between precipitation behavior, martensite morphology, and processing techniques like laser welding and press hardening.
His work also addresses lightweighting strategies for battery electric vehicles and the impact of alloying elements (Nb, Mo, Ni) on steel properties.
