Harald Stadler is a Professor at the Institute of Archaeology within the Faculty of Humanities and History at the University of Innsbruck. Since 2017, he has led the Department of Medieval and Modern Archaeology, focusing on inner-Alpine prehistory, early history, and cultural heritage. His work spans glacial archaeology, wartime sites, and interdisciplinary textile/leather research, with collaborations across Austria, Italy, Germany, and Switzerland.

- Habilitation in 2000 for Prehistory and Early History, Medieval and Modern Archaeology
His research interests include:
- Prehistory and early history of the inner-Alpine region
- Medieval and modern archaeology
- Glacial archaeology (e.g., melting ice discoveries)
- Archaeology of World War II airplane wrecks and World War I sites
- Textile and leather studies in historical context
Key projects include the FWF Individual Project P22880 on the Volders Cemetery and forensic DNA analysis. He has supervised numerous PhD and Master’s students on topics ranging from medieval kitchens to modern glass production.
Stadler serves on the Advisory Board of the Alpine Research Center Obergurgl and collaborates with institutions like the State Collection for Anthropology and Paleoanatomy Munich and the Institute for Forensic Medicine, Innsbruck. His editorial role in the series Nearchos and Praearchos since 2005 highlights his academic leadership.
