Harald Ringbauer

Harald Ringbauer is a population geneticist at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany. As Group Leader of the Haplo Group within the Department of Archaeogenetics, he specializes in developing computational methods to analyze ancient DNA (aDNA) for demographic and social history reconstruction.

• Focus areas: IBD segment detection, population size estimation, mobility patterns
• Collaborates with MHAAM (Max Planck – Harvard Research Center for the Archaeoscience of the Ancient Mediterranean)

His research spans both empirical analysis of ancient genomes and computational method development. Key projects include:

• Applying haplotype-based methods to low-quality aDNA
• Reconstructing demographic parameters through shared DNA segments
• Studying Neolithic transitions in the Mediterranean and Europe
