Harald Clahsen is a Professor of Psycholinguistics at the University of Potsdam and Director of the Potsdam Research Institute for Multilingualism (PRIM). He has held visiting professorships at the University of Essex and visiting research positions at Max-Planck-Institut für Psycholinguistik and Max-Planck-Institut für Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences.
- 1974-1978: MA in German Philology, Sociology, Linguistics, and Mathematics at University of Wuppertal and Düsseldorf
- 1978-1981: PhD in Linguistics (summa cum laude), University of Wuppertal/Hamburg
- 1987: Habilitation in Linguistics, University of Düsseldorf
Clahsen's research focuses on psycholinguistics and neurolinguistics, with emphasis on multilingualism, grammatical processing, and language disorders in children and adults. His work spans generative syntax, morphology, and cognitive aging effects on language acquisition and processing.
His recent publications analyze morphological processing using ERP methods, heritage speaker linguistics, and digital language learning interventions for older adults. Awards include the Alexander-von-Humboldt International Award and Fellow of the British Academy (FBA).
