Harald Badinger

Harald Badinger is a Professor of International Economics and currently serves as Vice-Rector for Financial Affairs and Campus Management at WU Vienna University of Economics and Business. He leads the Department of Economics and has held roles such as Head of the Institute für International Economics (2010–2020) and Deputy Head of the Department of Economics (2012–2015). His research focuses on applied econometrics, European integration, international macroeconomics, and monetary policy. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and contributed to projects on fiscal rules, trade dynamics, and the quantitative effects of European integration.

His work includes analyzing the Euro’s impact on trade, monetary policy transmission mechanisms in the Eurozone, and the J-curve effect using structural gravity models. He has received multiple awards, including the Anerkennungspreis Wissenschaft (2014) and recognition in the Handelsblatt Top 100 Researchers rankings. Badinger has also participated in numerous editorial and advisory roles, contributing to policy debates on globalization, fiscal frameworks, and EU institutional efficiency.
