Haoyang Zhao

Hao Yang Zhao is an Associate Lecturer at The Courtauld Institute of Art, specializing in the visual and material culture of imperial China, with a focus on provenance research of Chinese art circulating in late 19th/early 20th-century markets. His work emphasizes the Qing imperial album Huangchao Liqi Tushi.

Education includes a PhD in History of Art (University of Glasgow, 2023), MRes in History of Art (Glasgow), MA in History of Art/Archaeology in East Asia (SOAS, University of London), and BA in History of Art in East Asia (SOAS).

Research interests center on the intersection of imperial art production, art market dynamics, and provenance tracking of Chinese artworks. Previously worked as a researcher at Sotheby’s and currently serves as Editorial Assistant at Orientations magazine.

Labs/teams: Engaged in collaborative projects on provenance analysis and Qing dynasty material culture through institutional partnerships in art history research.
