Prof. Hans-Werner Hammer leads a research group focused on Effective Field Theories for Strong Interactions and Ultracold Atoms, affiliated with the Helmholtz Research Academy Hesse for FAIR, Extreme Matter Institute, and Collaborative Research Center 1245.
His research investigates strongly interacting quantum systems using quantum field theory and dispersion theory, with emphasis on effective field theories and renormalization group methods applied to cold atoms/molecules with large scattering lengths and weakly-bound nuclear/particle systems. The work reveals universal behaviors where light nuclei spectra share features with few-body molecules in ultracold atomic experiments.
Funding is secured from the Helmholtz Research Academy Hesse for FAIR, Extreme Matter Institute, Collaborative Research Center 1245, Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, and Federal Ministry for Education and Research.
The group maintains active international collaborations in theoretical nuclear and atomic physics, particularly through institutional partnerships with major research centers focused on quantum many-body systems.
