Hans-Ulrich Wagner

Dr. Hans-Ulrich Wagner is a Senior Researcher at the Leibniz Institute for Media Research | Hans-Bredow-Institut (HBI), where he has headed the Research Centre Media History since August 2005. He holds teaching responsibilities at Universität Hamburg in the subject area 'Language, Literature, Media I'. His career includes doctoral research on post-war radio plays (1945-1949), curatorial work for the exhibition 'Remigrants and Broadcasting 1945-1955', and a DFG-funded project on Günter Eich's broadcasting work at the German Broadcasting Archive.

Wagner's research focuses on historical aspects of mediated public communication, with specializations in: media effects analysis, media-mediated remembrance cultures, broadcasting-literature relationships, sound studies, and 20th-century media program history. His work examines how media shape collective memory and societal mentalities.

Wagner maintains significant professional engagements including jury membership for the 'Hörspielpreis der Kriegsblinden' (since 1996) and board membership of 'Studienkreis Rundfunk und Geschichte', where he served as chairman (2007-2011). His academic background includes German and theology studies at Universität Bamberg and Universität Münster.
