معرفی
Prof. Hans-Peter Bunge is the Chair of Geophysics at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München since 2003. Previously, he held positions at Princeton University (1998–2003) and conducted postdoctoral research at the Institut de Physique du Globe (Paris, 1997–1998). His PhD (1996, UC Berkeley) focused on global mantle convection models developed at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Research Interests: Bunge specializes in computational geophysics, geodynamics, and high-performance computing (HPC). His work addresses mantle and core convection, lithosphere dynamics, and fluid dynamics inverse theory. He pioneered methods to assimilate seismic and geodynamic data, advancing understanding of Earth's interior dynamics and plate tectonics.
Awards & Affiliations: A member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Academia Europaea, Bunge has received the Bernard Friedman Award (1997) and Computerworld Honors Program recognition (2001). He leads the DFG Graduate School UPLIFT, exploring lithospheric uplift mechanisms, and serves on editorial boards, including the Proceedings of the Royal Society A.
Labs & Collaborations: The Munich Geodynamics Group, under his leadership, integrates computational modeling with observational geophysics. Collaborations span global institutions, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to Earth system dynamics.
