Hans Brandstetter

Hans Brandstetter is a Professor at the University of Salzburg, affiliated with the Faculty of Natural and Life Sciences and the Department of Biosciences and Medical Biology. He leads the Brandstetter Lab, which is part of the international PhD programs ICA and the Allergy-Cancer-BioNano Research Center.

His research focuses on the structure and mechanism of proteins in immunology and blood coagulation, with particular emphasis on proteolytic enzymes as a ubiquitous yet irreversible means of modifying proteins. His laboratory employs a spectrum of molecular biological, biochemical, enzymological, and biophysical methods to understand these molecular machines based on their atomic crystal structure.
