معرفی
Hannu Koskinen is a Professor in Space Physics at the University of Helsinki since 1997. He has held leadership roles as Director of the Department of Physics (2014–2017) and Director of the Division of Geophysics and Astronomy (2010–2013). Previously, he led space research units at the Finnish Meteorological Institute and worked at the Swedish Institute of Space Physics.
- Education: MSc (University of Helsinki, 1979), PhD (Uppsala University, 1985)
His research spans space plasma physics, solar-terrestrial interactions, ionospheric and magnetospheric dynamics, and planetary plasma environments. He focuses on space weather phenomena, including radiation belt modeling, magnetic cloud analysis, and solar wind interactions with planetary systems.
Recent publications highlight his work on space storm dynamics, radiation belt forecasting (SPACAST), and cometary magnetospheric interactions via the Rosetta mission. His studies involve magnetospheric energy transfer, ULF fluctuations, and particle acceleration in shock-shock interactions.
Scientific Awards:
- Knight, First Class, Order of the White Rose of Finland (2015)
- Theodor Homén’s prize (2010)
- Member, International Academy of Astronautics (2009)
- Teacher of the Year, University of Helsinki (2001)
Koskinen has participated in numerous space projects: Swedish Viking, Freja, and Astrid satellites; Russian Interball and Mars-96 missions; ESA’s Rosetta (Philae Lander Steering Committee Chair 2009–2013), Mars Express, Venus Express, BepiColombo, SMART-1, and Euclid; and the student satellite Aalto-1. He served as Finnish Delegate to ESA committees and chaired the Space Situational Awareness Programme Board (2011–2014).
