Hannes Gohli

Dr. Hannes Gohli is a Researcher at the Chair of China Business and Economics at the University of Würzburg's Philosophische Fakultät. His work focuses on understanding how China's central government designs and implements policies to drive energy transitions and sustainable development. He holds a B.A. from the University of Southern Denmark and an M.Sc. from the University of Würzburg, both in China Business and Economics.

His doctoral research, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), analyzed China's smart grid policy as part of the DFG project on political steering of industrial policy. Key topics include vertical industrial policy mechanisms, the interplay between central and local governance, and the energy sector's role in China's Belt and Road Initiative. Recent publications explore energy investments in Pakistan/Indonesia, governance of e-commerce platforms, and perceptions of cross-strait military conflict.

Gohli has taught courses on China's economic rise, business strategies in China, and sustainable development since 2017. He has presented at conferences including the International Sustainable Development Research Society (Nanjing 2019) and the German Society for Asian Studies (Bremen 2019). His research emphasizes 'steering theory' as a framework for analyzing Chinese policymaking's evolving mechanisms.
