Hanne M. Hoffmann is an Associate Professor in the Department of Animal Science at Michigan State University's College of Agriculture & Natural Resources. Her research program focuses on deciphering molecular pathways and brain circuitry within the hypothalamus and how impaired function affects hormone release, behavior, and reproductive competence.
Dr. Hoffmann earned dual PhDs: one in Neurobiology from Montpellier University 2, France (December 2010) with European mention, and another in Biochemistry from Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain (December 2010) with Cum Laude distinction. She completed postdoctoral training from June 2011 to March 2017 in the Department of Reproductive Medicine at UC San Diego.
Her research interests center on neuroendocrinology, circadian rhythms, and reproductive biology, with specific focus on how abnormal hypothalamic function leads to desynchronization of hormone release. Dr. Hoffmann's work examines cellular function through receptor expression and localization, with the long-term goal of identifying novel drug targets for arrhythmia, infertility, and preterm labor. Her laboratory utilizes transgenic mouse models, reporter mice, and recordings from live cells and tissues to investigate reproduction, labor, neuro-endocrinology, molecular biology, circadian rhythms, development, and GPCR signaling.
Analysis of Dr. Hoffmann's publications reveals a consistent focus on hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis regulation, with particular emphasis on GnRH neurons and their role in reproductive function.
