Hannah Waddilove is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Warwick's Department of Politics and International Studies (PAIS) and a Senior Research Analyst at the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), focusing on Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Kenya. She completed her PhD on Kenya's devolution at Warwick in 2019 under Professors Gabrielle Lynch and Daniel Branch. Her research explores state institutions during institutional change, with a focus on decentralization, elections, and civil conflict in Africa.
Education: MSc African Studies (Distinction, University of Oxford, 2008-09); PhD Politics (University of Warwick, 2019).
Professional experience includes roles with Oxford Analytica (Senior Africa Analyst), the Rift Valley Institute, and the British Institute in Eastern Africa. Her work bridges academia and policy, with a regional emphasis on the Horn of Africa and East Africa.
Publications span peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, policy briefings, and op-eds addressing topics like Kenya's devolution impacts, elite alliance-building, and Ethiopia's state-building processes.
