Hannah Robertson is a Lecturer in Construction Management at the University of Melbourne's Melbourne School of Design. She specializes in culturally responsive design and construction practices, with a focus on Indigenous communities in remote Australia. Her work integrates policy analysis, participatory design, and appropriate technologies to address housing, infrastructure, and environmental challenges in regions like Cape York and Arnhem Land.
Robertson holds a PhD from the University of Melbourne (2019), which explored resource-based building strategies in Northeast Arnhem Land. Her master's thesis, 'Bush Owner Builder' (2011), earned international recognition including the RIBA Dissertation Medal. She has held roles such as Innovation Fellow at Monash University's Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture (2018–2019), where she co-designed the Olkola Cultural Knowledge Centre with Indigenous partners.
Her research interests span cultural landscapes, sustainable construction, disaster resilience, and Indigenous-led development. Notable projects include submissions to national disaster inquiries and collaborations with the Centre for Appropriate Technology on community-driven solutions. Robertson's work has been honored with awards like the John Grice Award and Chartered Institute of Building Research Award, reflecting her contributions to architectural education and Indigenous design practices.
Her academic contributions emphasize interdisciplinary collaboration, policy advocacy, and the integration of traditional knowledge into modern construction frameworks. Current research explores post-disaster resettlement policies, water security in remote regions, and the socio-economic impacts of mining on Indigenous communities.
