Hannah O'Farrell

Dr. Hannah O'Farrell is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), affiliated with the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health. She completed her PhD at the University of Queensland in 2021, focusing on extracellular vesicles (EVs) in COPD and lung cancer. Her research combines molecular biology with clinical applications, particularly in pediatric respiratory medicine. Currently leading EV biomarker studies for pediatric cough and bronchiectasis, she contributes to international trials in respiratory disease management.

Research Interests:

• Extracellular vesicle biology and biomarker discovery
• Respiratory disease diagnostics and therapeutics
• Pediatric respiratory medicine
• COPD and lung cancer biomarkers

Publications: Her work spans EV-based diagnostics, e-cigarette toxicity comparisons, and clinical trial protocols for bronchiectasis and primary ciliary dyskinesia. Recent studies emphasize pediatric care burden analysis and mucolytic efficacy in chronic lung diseases.

Advising & Grants: Accepts PhD/Masters students in molecular biomarkers and pediatric respiratory research. Involved in four international multi-center trials funded by the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF).
