Hannah M Postel is an Assistant Professor at the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University. She is also affiliated with the Duke Population Research Institute (DuPRI) and the Duke Center for International Development (DCID).
- Education: PhD in Demography and Social Policy from Princeton (2022), MA in Economics from Princeton (2020), BA in Economics from Middlebury College (2013)
Her research focuses on the interplay between migration and economic development, with a historical lens on immigration policies, deportations, and population movements. She employs innovative data and methodological approaches to analyze labor market impacts of immigration restrictions, guest worker programs, and international development cooperation.
Recent publications highlight her expertise in US-Mexico migration dynamics, historical immigration policies, and global mobility trends. Key outlets include the American Economic Review, Population and Development Review, and Journal of Current Chinese Affairs.
Prior to joining Duke, she held a postdoctoral research scholar position in the Department of Economics at Stanford University. She teaches PUBPOL 495S: Honors Seminar, focusing on advanced policy analysis.
