Hannah James is a Lecturer in Jazz Studies at Sydney Conservatorium of Music, University of Sydney. She is an award-winning bassist, composer, and educator renowned for her genre-transcending musical expertise and leadership of ensembles such as Pharos, The Hannah James Trio, and Hatch.

Her research focuses on Australian rhythmic practices, music pedagogy, double bass technique, and contemporary composition. She has performed across Australia, the UK, and Asia in diverse contexts ranging from jazz trios to commercial sessions.
