Hannah Duggan is a Cultural Heritage Science Fellow at Bard Graduate Center (BGC), where she focuses on the analysis of cultural heritage objects using scientific methods, particularly examining conservation practices and material degradation. She is also a Conservation Scientist at Scientific Analysis of Fine Art (SAFA), specializing in microscopy and spectroscopic techniques for studying fine art degradation and conservation treatments.
- Education: BA in Chemical Engineering and Art History from Tufts University; MA in Science and Engineering in Arts, Heritage, and Archaeology from University College London (UCL, Institute of Sustainable Heritage).
Her research emphasizes:
- Mechanical effects of animal glue degradation on canvas
- Mid-20th-century painted finishes
- Preservation of East Village graffiti art from the 1980s
- Analysis and treatment of interior finishes in landmarked buildings
She has worked as an Architectural Conservator in New York and served as an Adjunct Lecturer at Johns Hopkins University, teaching conservation for the Museum Studies Master’s program. Her interdisciplinary work bridges material science, conservation, and art history, contributing to advanced research at BGC.
