Dr. Hannah Cornwell is an Associate Professor in Ancient History at the University of Birmingham, specializing in Roman political and social history from the Republic to the Early Empire. Her work focuses on Roman imperialism, peace ideology, and diplomatic practices during civil wars.
Education:
- BA in Literae Humaniores, University of Oxford
- MPhil in Ancient Greek and/or Roman History, University of Oxford
- DPhil in Ancient History, University of Oxford
Her research examines the evolution of Pax Romana as an ideological framework, Roman civil wars (particularly 49-30 BCE), and the intersection of material culture with political narratives. She leads projects analyzing architectural spaces as sites of diplomatic practice and is completing a monograph on the performance of Roman diplomacy.
