Hanna Kulenty

Hanna Kulenty (born March 18, 1961 in Białystok) is a Polish composer and Professor at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. She studied composition under Włodzimierz Kotoński at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw (1980-1986) and with Louis Andriessen at the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague (1986-1988). Since 1989, she has worked as a freelance composer, fulfilling numerous commissions and benefiting from creative scholarships, while also lecturing at various music institutions worldwide.

Her educational background includes:

• Composition studies under Włodzimierz Kotoński at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw (1980-1986)

Professor Kulenty's research and creative work centers on contemporary classical music composition. Her diverse output spans orchestral works, chamber music, and solo pieces, characterized by innovative textures and structural exploration. Notable compositions include 'Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra' (winner of the 2003 UNESCO Rostrum) and 'Ad unum' (1985 European Competition), reflecting her significant contributions to modern Polish and international music.

Her accolades include the Mozart Medal from UNESCO (2003), First Place at the 50th UNESCO International Rostrum of Composers (2003), and multiple awards from the Polish Composers' Union for works such as 'Quinto' (1986) and 'Breathe' (1987). She also received the Stanisław Wyspiański Youth Artistic Award (1987).

She has served on juries for the Münchener Biennale (1995), Gaudeamus Music Week (2002), and the Kazimierz Serocki Competition (2004), contributing to the development of new music.
