Dr. Hanna Haran is an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Arlington's School of Social Work. Her research focuses on economic justice, forced migration, and employment quality among displaced populations. She holds a PhD in Social Work from The Ohio State University (2024), an MSW from the same institution (2022), and an MPP in Public Health from Arizona State University (2019). Her work examines workplace policies' impact on well-being and entrepreneurship's role in economic inclusion for refugees.
Key research areas include: economic mobility pathways for forced migrants, mental health outcomes linked to precarious employment, and wealth attainment strategies in marginalized communities. She has conducted studies on Afghan refugees, Bhutanese-Nepali refugees, and international students, addressing trauma, discrimination, and community resilience.
Dr. Haran has published in journals such as Community Mental Health Journal, Journal of Ethnic & Cultural Diversity in Social Work, and International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. She is currently PI on a $16,000 grant examining financial capability needs among Burmese refugees. Active in teaching research methods and social work pedagogy, she also serves on UTA's Research Committee and volunteers at a refugee health clinic.
