Hank Fradella is a Professor in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Arizona State University (ASU), with affiliate roles in the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law and the Law and Behavioral Science program. He holds a Ph.D. in Justice Studies (ASU, 1997), J.D. (George Washington University, 1993), and additional degrees in Forensic Science and Psychology. His research focuses on criminal law development, legal decision-making, and the intersection of law with mental health, LGBTQ+ rights, and policing practices.
Dr. Fradella has authored/co-authored 14 books, including Punishing Poverty and Stop and Frisk, and over 130 peer-reviewed articles. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Criminal Law Bulletin and has held leadership roles in the Western Society of Criminology (WSC), including past presidency. His awards include the inaugural Henry F. Fradella Award (2024) and the Richard Tewksbury Award (2017).
Key contributions include advocating for pretrial justice reform, critiquing gender-critical legal frameworks, and analyzing judicial use of forensic evidence. His work spans interdisciplinary collaborations, addressing systemic inequalities in criminal justice and advancing evidence-based policy.
